Hi, Just got back from Phoenix, Az. 110 degrees, not for me! Hotel was located across from "Symphony Hall", but, alas! they are on vacation until September. Had my cello to a Luthier to be "checked over" and picked it up on the way home from Portland...we flew from Portland instead of Presque Isle. Good to be Home! How's things and what is going on? Anyone?

Hi Rita,

If you really want to go to the workshop, I suggest you contact Melanie (she was at out open harp circle). She stated in her info about the workshop, "Home hospitality can be arranged if needed for people traveling a long distance." Her email address is there in the blurb. Last time we went down, some of us stayed overnight and some drove down for the day (but we're a little closer than you are). I don't know yet what the options will be for those from Houlton wanting to go down - not even sure who's going, yet. Keep in touch on it!

I'm glad the link was useful. The drawings on the Vanderbilt site are good, but if one has a fast enough connection, there's nothing like actually watching someone do something! (In my humble opinion!)

P.S. I have tried three times to put this comment in "stringing the harp" but it wasn't loading for some reason. I'll try here, but if it doesn't work this time I'll try again tomorrow!

Hi Rita,

This particular gig is for Kindred Harps, Heavenly Harpers of Houlton, and Border Harmony. We will be playing some of the music from our last concert and some we had beforehand. I understand that we won't be in the Forum building after all, but in another building on the grounds. I'm not the one who has been corresponding with them. I think Dale is the one who is doing that. Once we have a schedule for getting together with new music, we will definitely let you know!

Hey, Rita, I'm all for that. They have many harp workshops in Ireland--i've already been looking! And some of them include beginners--so they say; they may not be envisioning just how "beginner" I am! but, that would be a dream come true--esp if we cold combine a harp workshop with a stay on one of the Aran Islands. Let's start packing!

Hi, Rita, have you been ill? I wondered why I hadn't seen you here. Hope all is well with you up there in the (even more) north country.

Profile Information

How many/what kind of harps do you have?
Presently, a 36 Dusty Strings and a 2 octave "Brady" harp.
About Me:
Retired RN, I play cello in the Northern Aroostook Chamber Orchesta. I am an amateur harpist.
Harping History - or how I got started, what inspired me to play the harp?
First episode with the harp was in high school...it was the only instrument that had a slot to fill, so I opted to play harp...I loved it, played on a Wurlitzer Concert Grand pedal harp, but alas, after 1 year I was transferred to a new school in my area and they didn't have a harp...so I ended up with the cello. I always loved harp music and sound...so after many many years, I bought a used 24 string harp about 4 years ago, and used Sylvia Woods' book and got back to the lovely sound of the harp.

Hi, Was so glad I could stop by to say hello! Andy is so busy traveling all over the State, and sometimes I feel I have to keep him company on the road. Will be going (the 14th) to my 50th Class Reunion in Philadelphia. God Bless you all and keep "plucking". Rita

tuning and retuning

If we all had pedal harps, we wouldn't have to tune, lift levers, etc......Rita
