I've only done a very little bit, but it's been a lot of fun. I've never done something for multiple harps, though, so we'll see how this goes.
First, though, I need to get my hands on a copy of the music again! (Much quicker and more accurate tha...
Interesting that you mention the SATB chorus piece... I've recently been reminiscing about Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening, which I sang in All-Aroostook several years ago. I'm thinking about picking up a copy of the chorus arrangement an...
On the contemporary side, I've been enjoying Meg Robinson's compositions. I have Falling Snow, Fate, and Dance of the Night so far... All three are pretty and harpy, although I have to say that I like Fate the best. (Falling Snow also makes a very...

Thinking about a lap harp as well
About Me:
I grew up in Patten and just outside of Portage, and I now live half the year just outside of Portage and half the year just outside of Washington D.C. In "real life," I'm an environmental engineer, and during the summer, I own and run the Red River Camps with my husband.
Harping History - or how I got started, what inspired me to play the harp?
I've wanted to play the harp since kindergarten, when a very nice lady brought one in to our school. I finally took the plunge in 2006 and have been taking lessons in Virginia since then.
So sorry that you won't be able to be here for the harp circle, but we understand. Have a safe trip back down and we will keep you informed of future gatherings. Don't be a stranger to this site while you are away!

Most of us are in the process of learning in our spare time. Some (most) are retired from careers and now have time for things like the harp. The rest of us squeeze it in where we can.
I would say we range from rank beginner to intermediate, so you will fit in quite well, I'm sure!
Membership is $10.00 a year starting Jan. 1. There is no form to fill out except name and address so that we can send out any newsletters we manage to put out and keep you informed of events (if we can't get you by email). As close to the end of the year as we are (and since you will be leaving in October), I would say that a small donation would see you through to the end of this year. You may also pre-pay for next year and we would send you your membership card (or give it to you at the harp circle).
We usually ask a small fee for the harp circles to cover the cost of using the church.
I just spoke with one of the other members who helps to jog my memory! ;-)
The harp circle will be Saturday, September 12 at 10 am at the First Congregational Church of Houlton on High St. I can email directions to you if you think you will be able to make it. We will be working out of the book Finale. If you don't have a copy, it is available through Afghan Press.
Welcome! I look forward to meeting you!
When will you be heading south again? We are planning a harp circle in early September and hope you can make it. (I think it is the 11th.)
